Intro con’t

When i started this blog a handful of days ago, i wanted to chronolog my own food adventures…but not posting anything after the 1st post for days made me think about what i wanted to do with this platform.

This morning i came up with a new idea. Who knows what food on the inside is better that the homeless? They have had more experience with “institution” food than anyone else (except maybe for people serving multiple years in prison). So i think the goal of this blog is to find local homeless people, take them out to eat whatever they want, and find out their story.

I’m setting up a GoFundMe to aid in this effort.

Introduction

We all have probably, at some point in our lives, experienced a meal in a public institution that was…less than flavorful.

Hospital dietary plans often restrict you from ordering anything that sounds good, and the food is bland most times.

Detox facilities are usually no better, offering high- carb/starch diets designed to add 1lb per day to your weight.

Nursing homes are a mixed bag, depending on the chef. Most have to follow guidelines based on potential food allergies.

School cafeterias are no different; both at the grade-school and advanced levels. Because they have to create meal plans based on dietary restrictions, this often leads to a disappointing meal.

Jails, prisons, and other correctional facilities are notorious for having a terrible meal plan. Similar to detox facilities (but certainly of less quality), these meals satisfy the basest of needs. Ramen is usually available in the commissary.

The entire time, every time, whenever a commercial came on the tv for something food-related, i got hunger pains for that-which-i-could-not-have. The point is: once you get out of institutions like these, you want REAL food. I don’t care if it’s fast food or 5* dining, these are the foods you want to sink your ravenous teeth into once you are unfettered.
